An academic journey

Dr. Kismullah took the long road through language education: a bachelor's degree in English Language Teaching at Universitas Syiah Kuala, a Master of Applied Linguistics at La Trobe University, then a doctorate in sociolinguistics and dialectology at Deakin University, Australia. That combination lets him see English from two sides at once — as a science that can be studied, and as a skill that must be taught in a humane way.

Day to day he serves as an academic at Universitas Syiah Kuala in Banda Aceh. His work there revolves around language assessment, teaching material development, and mentoring students fighting their way past language requirements for scholarships and careers.

Why English Academy exists

After years of watching Indonesian learners, Dr. Kismullah kept finding the same pattern. Most people do not fail for lack of ability. They fail for two simple reasons: they study without a map, and they stop because they are afraid of being wrong.

English Academy was built to answer both. The map comes from a CEFR level test and clearly drawn learning paths; the fear is met with a light learning atmosphere, an enjoyable daily quiz, and the principle we still hold today — learning English is always fun.

Field of work

As an applied linguistics academic, his attention rests on three questions: how language is taught effectively, how ability is measured fairly, and how technology can widen access to learning without lowering its quality. Those three are the foundation of every feature on this site, from the graded test questions to the rule that all content must pass human review.

Role at English Academy

At English Academy, Dr. Kismullah is the keeper of the academic direction. The curriculum, the writing standards, and the quality of the questions sit under his supervision, alongside the writing and editorial team.
